                                          FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

We are just into February and there’s already so much going on…Super Bowl Sunday (boring…the best part was Adam Levine’s tattoos), Quilt a Bit’s first ever Mini Retreat (such a success), and Dawn’s hip replacement (she came through with flying colors) that I just now can sit down and think about the Newsletter.

Our Fat Quarter Bingo had another good turn out this past month with some pretty interesting games.  We normally play 4 games, usually 1 or 2 winners per games but last month we had Lisa D. win 3 out of four games!  She was nice enough give up her 3rd win and have us keep calling numbers until someone else yelled Bingo!  Then Marilyn S. had 2 Bingos on one card, another 1st! Exciting times at Fat Quarter Bingo!  Remember, Bingo is the 4th Thursday of every month.  This month’s theme is “Dots”.

Please note that we have updated our class policy.  You are requested to pay for your class upon sign-up. Class attendance will be on a first-paid, first-seated basis. Any cancellation made 7 days prior to the class will be issued a full refund.  Cancellations made 6 – 3 days prior to class will be issued a store credit for the full class fee.  NO Refunds will be given for no shows or cancellations less than 2 days before a class.  Our class policy will be displayed on the cover of our class sign up book.  Thank you for understanding.  Remember, just because your name is in the class book, your seat is not guaranteed until your class is paid for.

February’s calendar is full!  Our Mini Retreat started off the month and it was a huge success.  Don’t worry if you missed out on this one, we will be scheduling more in the future.  Maryann’s Missouri Star Pre-Cut Club is back (Friday/Saturday, Feb. 8/9). This club meets every other month to make a quilt from one of the Missouri Star books.   Robin continues with her Monthly Mini’s (Thursday, Feb. 14).  This month’s mini is called “St. Patrick’s Day”.  Your class fee includes the pattern, fabric, and bonus project.  We also have themed mini hangers available.  Beverly’s Appliqued Needle Case from last month was so popular that we have scheduled another class for beginners (Friday, Feb. 15).  For those of you who would like to learn a few more challenging stitches, her Intermediate Stitches (Friday, Feb.15) will be just right for you.  Robin’s Sunday Fun day (Sunday, Feb. 17) is Blooming Wallflowers.  Robin’s sample quilt used fat quarters and the Deb Tucker's V Block ruler (available at Quilt a Bit) or you can use the templates provided in the pattern.  If you have taken Carl’s Beginners Paper Piecing Techniques his Paper Pieced Table Runner (Wednesday, Feb. 20 or Friday, Feb. 22) is the next step.  This two-part class takes you from selecting compatible fabrics to a completed project. (Part 2 meets Friday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 20). Kim’s Easy Cathedral Window (Saturday, Feb. 23) will show an easy way to do those cathedral windows plus some different techniques she’s learned along the way.  Finishing up the month is Maryann’s Quilt in a Day (Sunday, Feb.24) showcasing  large scale prints in an easy quilt top that you can finish in one afternoon.

 Don’t forget …

QUILT A BITS 4TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE, SATURDAY, FEB. 16.

We’ll have our annual Treasure Hunt, Door Prizes, Refreshments, and SALES (40 % off all clearance items, 20% off Christmas and Halloween fabric and kits, PLUS 10% off EVERYTHING else in the store. Be sure to mark your calendars.  Doors open at 8 AM!

March looks to be just as busy!  We start out the month with Concessa’s Mini Mosaic Wall Hanging (Friday, March 1).  These adorable little wall hangings can become addicting! Back by popular demand, Ann’s Sashiko Pinwheel Pincushion (Wednesday, March 6) will be a great place to keep all your sewing needs at hand.   This is a 2-part class. Part 2 is Wednesday, March 20.  Carl’s Beginner’s Paper Piecing (Friday, March 8) was so popular we had to add another class. His classes are small (6) so sign up early!  Maryann is back with her Advanced Beginner’s (Saturday, March 9, 16, & 23).  This series of three classes is the next step in becoming a confident quilter.  Maryann’s Skip the Borders (Checkerboard Dots, Saturday, March 9) is the second in the series of six quilts done from the Skip the Borders book. This month’s Monthly Mini (Thursday, March 14) is “Little Bunny” just in time for Easter.  Maryann’s Free Motion 101 (Friday, March 15) will teach you how to quilt your quilts at home.  Sunday fun Day “BQ2” (Sunday, March 17) is an easy, big block quilt that allows you to put your own look into the quilt through fabric selections and block rotations and placement. Robin’s Project Bag (Thursday, March14) is fat quarter friendly and a great way to help organize your projects. Beverly’s wool applique/stitches classes have been so popular we aren trying to bring you a class each month.  Kim will also be teaching a Quiltsmart class this month. Please check back for more information.

All our Hand Sew, All Day Sew, and UFO days are scheduled a usual. .

Every second Monday we need volunteers to come out and help make pillowcases for Ryan’s Smiles (10 am – 2 pm).  Extra hands are always needed to pin, sew, or press pillowcases.  We supply the fabric, you supply the love.  The Palm Beach County Quilter’s Guild has a Community Outreach program that meets here the 2nd Monday of each month from 5 – 9 pm. Extra hands are always needed to help cut, sort or kit projects to be handed out at the Guild meeting to make quilts for various charities.  If you would like to help, please stop in on Monday evening.
